I am using Windows XP Pro SP2!
For several days AVG antivirus catches Trojan Horse Proxy.IDO which goes and creates or corrupts always the same file with the following name and folder location: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\maindll.dll.
Although AVG says that it kills it, it seems that the trojan reappears during start up every time and accidentally while I use my computer!
I tried Norton antivirus, NOD32 (this is what I am using now) and their respective antispyware programs! But this trojan persists.
How can I be protected from this once and for all?
I try to avoid heavy programs such as Norton and Mcfee!!

Turn off your System Restore ... every time you clean the virus it remain in the system restore ... when you reboot ... it reloads itself ....
Turn it off .... Scan ...... reboot ..... Turn it back on

One problem may be that you seem to be trying to run two antivirus programs. You said AVG says it killed it, but you also say you are using NOD32. Uninstall NOD32. My recommendation would be to use AVG, since that's the link above.
Get a good antivirus program. Here you have some free options:
