I have been tryhing to update my firewall/antivirus software but it says that there is a Computer Associates antivirus software on my computer that needs to be removed before I can update it. I have went to add/remove programs and its not there. So how can I get rid of it if I cant find it?

Sounds like you have an old program (CA antivirus? ) that didnt completely uninstall. You may have to go digging into your registry ( not for the faint of heart) to get it out or get a registry cleaner.
try going to start menu and search
if you cant find it there go to my computer, local disk, program files, then locate the folder of that program it is usually the name of the company who makes the software, then u can just delete this folder....unless it has that stupid message saying the program is in use then go ctrl+alt+del and locate the program under the processes tab and end it
