Weird conflcit between Firefox & Musicmatch?

About once a day, I will be browsing the Internet using Firefox when suddenly a combination of key strokes will start Musicmatch. I use Musicmatch to rip and burn musid CDs.

This never happens when I am using Internet Explorer and I have never experienced it with any other program.

And yes, my antivirus software is updated regularly and I run scans with Adaware and Microsoft Antispyware on a weekly basis.

It sounds like some global keystrokes are enabled check for any software that might be lauching this for you. First check musicmatch for this setting then maybe an extension in firefox. Then check for other software that may allow for keystrokes to launch applications.

Laptop freezing please help ???

I have intel Pentium 4 laptop with window XP home edition. For some reasons its keep on freezing. Sometimes it freezes in the beginning on welcome screen , sometimes it open so nicely and freezes when I try to open any new program. I have Norton antivirus 2005. i cant even hear fan sound from this system. Is there any way I can check fan speed or its operation without opening my computer. Any suggestion ???

Make sure you have all the patches for your games, as well as all MS updates, patches and hotfixes.

Crashes/freezes could be due to several reasons, including hardware issues. Does it run ok in safe mode?

Check these:

1. Overheating(Open the case and check to see how much dust has collected inside it, and if there is a lot of dust get a can of compressed air and blow the dust out and clean out all dust bunnies, etc. on the heatsink/;fan combo,etc.; and be sure all the fans are spinning and properly functioning )

2. Poor power supply (weak power supply or noisey / dirty electricity)

3. Bad driver or drivers not updated, or a device conflict. Pull the connectors and push them back on. Reseat all of the cards.

How do I shut off my firewall TEMPORARILIY?

When I was trying to open up Maplestory, an online game that uses gameguard as a hackprevent system, powered by Nexon, it stopped loading GameGuard as it usually does before opening. A dialogue box appeared and said, ''An error has occured during the update. Please try temporarily disabling the VirusVaccine, or change the system option, if you are using the PC-maintenence program.'' I have norton antivirus, and i temporarily diabled autoprotect, and internet worm protection, but the same error occured. I checked my system option, but there's nothing to do with security. I added Maplestory as an exception with my firewall, but that didn't work either. And for those that play maplestory, yes, i already tried deleting evreything in the gameguard folder, but that didn't work either. I also tried uninstalling maplestory, then reinstalling it, but the same error occured. Now my only option is to turn of my firewall, but i don't know how. When i got there, it said it was ctrled by another group

ok, on saturday, march 3rd, i was browsing the internet, i was watching a ''video'' and it said that it was not compatible with Windows Media Player, i should have been suspicious then, but i downloaded it anyway.

That sounds nasty indeed. Ok, there's a few things you can try out here :

1. Try to restore your PC to an earlier time (2nd March) using System Restore.

2. Get NOD32, install it, run your PC in Safe Mode and run an in-depth analysis from NOD32. It's the best antivirus software out there. (and get rid of that Norton crap !!).

Okay when I click the Limewire icon it has an error. I already found this from a website : Q: Every time I click the LimeWire icon to open it, I get the error ''LimeWire was unable to initialize and start. . .'' What does this mean?

I am sorry you installed Norton anti-virus, it is the worst anti-virus application you can get and is almost impossible to completely remove. Make sure you download their removal tool. The best anti-virus available is Kaspersky or NOD32 (recent tests at av-comparatives.org).

I have 13 computers. 11 use AVG free, and the other 2 use Avast. All are Dell GX1 450 or 500 mhz P-III with 512MB of RAM W2k sp4. RAM is cheap.

Adobe Reader causes my CPU usage to go to 100% when I try to open a pdf document. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Reader. I wonder if something else besides the Adobe Reader is causing the problem. My first theory was that it was my McAfee antiVirus software, because the MCSHEILD program would also use alot of the CPU. I could never open PDF documents. I replaced it with Norton AntiVirus software and it helped but the problem still occurs about half of the time.

Just give adobe reader plenty of time. It takes a while to open PDFs, so let it have 3-5 minutes. If not, persue the other people's ideas.
Does the pc actually freeze, where you have to reboot? or does it just hang for a bit until the file actually opens? Pdf files can be very demanding, thus requiring a lot of cpu usage, so your problem isn't rare. However, if you are actually freezing to the point where you have to reboot, I don't know how to help.

HUGE BUG WITH TALLY: Too slow.................?

As the topic name says .............. I have tally 7.2 build 3.12 installed. It is NOT pirated. I have bought the software and it was working fine a month ago......... But now it seems to be very very slow..........

I cant figure out the reason ............ I deleted all unwanted programs and files...............Memory is not the problem................ I have lots of space left on my PC.

Please check for these things

1. Is it only tally which is running slow and no other softwares?

2. The amount of data in your company.

3. default company you open?

Most of the time tally slows down if the company data is huge and computer configuration is unable to handle it. The huge amount of data means you are entering more than 100- to 200 transactions per day.

you can also check for these

1. surrender tally and try to install it on another computer with same company data. It would show you the reason.

2. If data is high then try to split data of company and keep the current year company only.

Slow computer?

I don't know why my computer is running slow. I've done antivirus scans, defrags, disk cleanups, and deleted programs I don't use but still no improvement. I can barely use any programs, can't view videos very well because it lags so bad, I can't listen to music because it keeps cutting and skipping no matter what program I use, internet is slow as well, there are NO viruses, even booting up takes a while. I haven't had these problems before. I need help.

Click start , then run

Type msconfig

A window opens with many tabs: general, system.ini..

Click the last tab which is startup. You will see that many programs are clicked. Unclick all of them (diable all), most of them are unnecessary and run in the background taking up space, if the system needs them during startup it will take care of it, so dont have to worry if you unclicked a necessary program.

What version of Photoshop? Which anti-virus are you running? What's your PC setup? Did Photoshop ever run for you? What other programs do you have running?

OK... Exactly how far does Pshop get before it exits? Is it loading plug ins, or reading fonts or what?

Have you tried trashing your preferences? Hold down Ctrl-Alt-Shift while starting Photoshop up. When you get a dialog asking if you want to reset Photoshop to Defaults, click yes. See if that helps.

Where I work, they have this program running in the background, which I'm getting paranoid about. It is apparantly part of McAfee Antivirus, but is a seperate program in itself. When I open it, it has tons of ''Scripts'' and ''Policies'' it is envoking on my system. For the IT specialists out there, have you heard of this? Is it a way for my company to monitor my computer or internet usage? I need to know because I do browse the internet from time to time, and I don't want to get in trouble with my job. Thanks.

Basically it runs as a seperate program to ensure that ll of the other programs are running and are updated when necesary.

Your IT Dept. will be running an EPO server, where they can get reports of updates, which computers are running what I.E. anti-virus, anti-spyware etc, and computers that have turned up on the network without EPO agent.

If you try and remove this your computer will turn up in the uninstalled agents/rogue systems list and they'll just come over and install it again, unless you have a slack IT Dept.

AVG is free for the download or you can buy it for about 39.99. I like Mcafee. It has anti virus anti spy ware firewall. Having a hard ware fire wall isn't good enough you need to get a software one as well. search and destroy are good. you don't want to run more then one anti virus but you can run 2 or 3 anti spy ware. Zonealarm is another good firewall software and its a free download and not much to config. Be very careful what you delete. What browser are you using. I recommend Firefox. Its allot better then IE and it delete cookies and passwords and some other stuff when you close it. I don't like Norton much and don't use there Norton security you'll have more problems with that one. Computers are never safe enough. You need to update at least every 2 days. The router has a great hardware firewall but you want to install one of the software ones as well. Run scan disk once a week and defrag once a week as well will help you out. I hope this helps

So say you have 2mb bandwidth, that you get you about 200kb/s download speed in total throughout everything.

So if bittorrent uses 150kb/s, then your browser is going to go at a max of 50kb/s and so be really slow.

My computer has been crashing for a week now. Suddenly it just reobots, after that the computer is completely wiped clean. No programs, nothing. I ran several different antivirus, started with virgin pc guard, avg, mcaffe.No virus detected. Never heard of this probelm before but i will try to help.

First of all you should try boot up in safe mode and try another virus scan. In safe mode only the essential features of windows start up meaning if it is a virus it won't start up. Do a virus scan, i suggest getting nodd32 as it picks up most things, just download the trial version.

If you can't boot up in safe mode and need to access the files on your computer then try using a linux live cd, this will always work unless it is a hardware problem. I suggest using ubuntu. Instead of downloading it they will ship you a free cd with it on it. (No catch)

I have some problems with Call of Duty4 PC, help?

These questions are based on Online play in COD4.

Question 1: When I try to connect to a server, all servers say that ''this server is for low ping players only'', why? The only programs I have running is CA antivirus and Xfire. And I have been able to play online before.

Question 2: Sometimes I get kicked out of the game for ''Losing Key Packets'' ? What's that?

Question 3: Since I have the ''high ping'' problem, supposedly , according to COD4, I tried disconnect my NETGEAR router from the computer and inserting my DSL Modem straight into the ethernet hole. But once I do that, and try to connect it says KEY IS IN USE. But with the router, the key isn't? What happened there?

1.) Make sure you connect to a low ping server (40-80 ping)as this will actually give you a better/faster connection. This should solve your problem.

2.) Try reinstalling the game and make sure you install Punkbuster when you are prompted to do so. Also make sure you update the game since there have been at least two patches since the release of the game.

3.) Your router is not the problem here. Reconnect to your router.

Let me know if this works or not. There have been a lot of people posting here that have had problems with connecting to multiplayer for COD 4.

I recently reformatted my harddrive (300Gb) and reinstalled Windows XP Pro edition. I've carried out all updates and installed Norton Antivirus as well as other games and programs.

Since then, my computer can be quite slow running causing programs to stop respondnig for several minutes and sometimes crash completely. It has a 1.8GHz processor which I know isn't the fastest around but should give a good turn of speed.

I have been into MSConfig and disabled various start up programs. There is nothing in my start up folder.

bring your tablet pc to the nearest computer repair shop!
first, remove and re seat your ram and try to reboot. if that doesn't help, replace the hard drive. unfortunately, it's hard to tell without actually having the pc here to work on. oh....you did remove the xp disk right?

I recently did a scan of my whole computer with panda antivirus 2007 and found that a tracking program named 'application/funweb' installed its' self on my pc! My antivirus asks what action I want to take to remove it but I can never delete the program, it always appears on the next scan I do! It seems to be affecting my pc's preformance... sometimes it gets stuck, goes slower or the screen sort of blinks on its own and makes sounds like a pop-up would when it appears!! It even has my pc showing pop-up warnings on websites that I know for a fact are not harmful, such as right know on yahoo answers, every time I click the 'next' button I recieve a pop-up warning and it never use to do that before!!! There is a program that you may open, using start-%26gt;run.... its called gpedit.msc

I was informed of this while searching out a similar problem with one of my desktop's...

Browse through the settings in this program, it should have something about the control panel being blocked.

Well, if it's not a virus, then your account has been locked by an account with Administrator priviliges.

Do you have Administrator privliges on your account? If so, head to: (I assume you're running a 'Professional' copy of Windows, as opposed to 'Home Edition')

Upgraded BitComet before with no problems. Now i get popup alerts every time there's an inbound connection. Tried deleting and manually setting up a firewall rule for BC with no luck.

I heard that it's a Norton Antivirus's worm protection problem, and they said ''Go into the Norton AntiVirus Options and select Internet Worm Protection %26gt; Program Control'' to remove and create the rule. But since I'm using NIS2006, not just the Antivirus alone, i cannot locate it, assuming they're there at all.

I have swept my system again, it caught the trojan virus, and I ran another program that didn't pick it up, since the other software program quarantined. This is good, but how do I make sure that this virus doesn't re-install itself when I restart my computer, because that's what happens. The programs I am using is Spysweeper (the one that says it quarantined but when I restart the trojan re-installs themself on my computer. WTF?) How can I find out what badwidth uses each program.?

Let's say I have a 10 Mbps conection. I want to find out what percentage of it uses each of the programs that I have running (Windows, firewall, ICQ, msn, IE, emule, antivirus, etc.) at any given time. Is it possible to assign priorities. For example when I am surfing the web, let IE have more bandwidth and when I am downloading, leave it to emule so it downloads faster. Would it make a difference?

The software they want me to purchase is Antivirus PC Suite. Some other software ''companies'' have also been constantly warning me that my computer is infected with ''malicious'' spyware and they keep directing me to their site to buy their software. The programs are running in my system tray, located in the lower right corner of my computer (right by the clock). Every time I right-click on them in hopes of pulling up a menu to close them or quit the programs, they direct me to their site. Sometimes I can come back to my PC after a few hours and find 27 Internet Explorer windows opened because of so many pop-ups trying to get me to buy their software. I tried using a pop-up blocker but they also advertise their own pop-up blockers and always get around mine. I am certain that something recently installed on my computer is causing this. That, my friend, is adware. Pop-up blockers don't usually work against adware because the two methods of producing the pop-ups are different.

I suggest you download Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S%26D (they鈥檙e free), install them, update them and run them. If they don't seem to be able to get rid of everything they report finding, try running them again, this time in Safe Mode. Safe Mode prevents many instances of malware from loading and protecting themselves against deletion of their files.

Sounds like you have an old program (CA antivirus? ) that didnt completely uninstall. You may have to go digging into your registry ( not for the faint of heart) to get it out or get a registry cleaner.
try going to start menu and search

if you cant find it there go to my computer, local disk, program files, then locate the folder of that program it is usually the name of the company who makes the software, then u can just delete this folder....unless it has that stupid message saying the program is in use then go ctrl+alt+del and locate the program under the processes tab and end it

First off, As i download a program that i like like ad-aware, antivirus or any other things i go right ahead if i like it, i go directly to the cd that i created and download all the startup kits so i have all the programs right away salf.

So i got that cover and salf, when i got my new hard drive i had moved before it could been reformatted, so i will be doing it's first reformat, i have the xp cd that a guy gave me when he worked on it last, so if i do the full format and not the quick format and no what to format it NTFS, so i have the xp cd and know how to go into my BIOS and change first boot device over to cd-rom drive will it be ok if i have First boot device set to cd- rom drive and second boot device set to the hard drive.

Now about the partition sizing, can i press enter or what to show the maximum size.

P.S is their any thing els that i need to know about reformatting a hard drive.

I think I maintain my pc fairly well. Any all all files are kept on an external hard drive rather than on my pc. I have a 1 year old Dell XPS with dual processors. I use CA antivirus, spydoctor, ewido and ''cclean''. I've adjusted my computer's visual settings for ''performance''. I've ran ''msconfig'' and adjusted which programs start up and I've stopped any normaly running programs that I feel I can (perhaps I stopped some important ones and that's my problem although I would not know which ones are crucial to good performance and which ones slow my pc down) Yet, whenever I do something as simple as open a new webpage or a new program; my pc slows down, my mouse lags behind as if I had remoted into the computer. Computer won't download a program?

I have 2 computers connected through a router. One computer is fairly new and the other is older. On the older pc, I try to download different programs and none of them seem to work. For example, I tried to download this client for a gaming site in order to play games and it downloaded but when I try to run the program it freezes. Other times the download won't even give me the option to Run so I can start to download. Sometimes the download will start then it will take so long that I am not sure if it is actually working and downloading or just frozen so I eventually end up cancelling it. Do some downloads take a REALLY long time and I just have to be patient? I have Norton Antivirus installed but it is expired. Could this be the reason it is not downloading properly? Any help is appreciated.

restart your computer and then do what you did in control panel and remove the file and then restart your computer again and see what happens
There is another way is by going into My Computer- then C: drive (since most programs are there) Then click on Program files. Look for McAfee directory. Highlight the directory and right click. Then select ''delete''. It will send the contents to your recycle bin to deal with later. See if you are still having the some programs with McAfee loading- many programs do not want to be replaced so they make it difficult to get them off %26 place files all over your system- making it even more of a pain (registry- hiiden folders, etc). Shareware and trailware are even worse. A quick word of advice is to contact McAfee directly %26 ask them. With your McAfee files still in the Recyle bin in the folder- you can restore and follow their instructions. Hope this is of help? More pressure needs to be placed on vendors to grow up and realize people do switch for very good reasons- ie.- required at work- pricing- personal prefernce.
Yes make sure you have quit all programs having to do with mcaffee press ctl+alt+del and go to the processes tab and make sure to close all the ones that are connected with mcaffee. After that open my computer, your main hard drive, then program files. Find the folder called mcaffee and delete it. after that go back through add/remove programs and click remove it should say it cant find it anymore and remove it from the list.

When you remove a program it goes to your recycle bin. Click on recycle, when asked if your sure say yes. Should take care of it.
Just you have to deactivate the antivirus first then remove it wait till it finishes mcafee is too slow and may take about 1 hour.

Before you tell me to go to preferences and uncheck the box that says to automatically start Yahoo! Messenger when I start up my computer, I have already done that and it's unchecked and it still insists on loading up with windows. I also looked in the Start Up folder and it's empty, I have no programs in that folder at all. The only programs that load with windows are Norton antivirus and Yahoo which drives me nuts and I want the choice of when I want my messenger running. Any ideas on how to remedy this?

Ok go down to start and then to run,and in run type in msconfig and click ok, there go to the startup tab,that is everything that is starting up when you start your computer,there make sure there is no check in front of YMessenger,then click apply and ok and yes to restart computer,then messenger shouldn't start til you want it to.

The wireless connection at my college that is included in my building use fees is supposed to be unlimited and complimentary with my schooling.

However, it requires that each person that uses it has the most expensive anti-virus program that is available. I am unable to get this program because the price is ridiculous but I still think it is my right to use this connection that I pay for. Sounds to me like if you had it running prior to doing your Java Update, then do a system restore back to that point, that should at least get you up and running.

Are you trying to remove it while it is running? Right click the AVG icon next to the clock %26 left click ''Quick AVG Control Centre'' and then Yes. Now go to the Control Panel and uninstall from the add or remove program panel. First of all, are you administrator? Or do you have administrator rights? If not, log on as the administrator and then try and get rid of the program. You should be able to get rid of it if you are the administrator. If you are not the administrator then you may have to remove it manually by removing registry entries and program files.e.t.c.

The administrator is the account that has access to everything on the computer.
Maybe you should stop all AVG's running program........ then you can start trying to remove (uninstall) it from control panel...

If that doesn't work, you should seek for a third party software remover at download.com or somewhere else....

and the last way is... just delete the program folder, then remove it from the control panel ( it works for some softwares)
