Computer active in the background on startup?

Hi, once my computer is started it seems to be running several programs in the background, I know my antivirus is probably one of them, but I have a feeling there are several others and it is making my computer very slow until they stop after about 3-4 minutes, can anyone tell me how I find out what programs are running on startup? thank you in advance.:-)

click start, then run. type in msconfig and click OK. Under the ''startup'' tab is a list of the things that run on startup. DO NOT uncheck a box if you don't know what it is; use google to find what things do before you go and un-check them. I cannot stress this enough.

That having been said, un-check the things you know you don't need, and that should help some.

Go to start menu, choose ''run''. Type in ''msconfig'' and click ok.

This will open a window in the screen where you can configure what your machine is doing. select the ''startup '' tab - this gives you the list of all programs that your machine runs when it starts.

If you don't recognise a name vist

to find out what it is before deselecting it . Switch off anything you don't actually need to have running constantly.

Prime offenders tend to be Yahoo messenger, MSM and utilities for printers. Be careful not to switch off your antivirus.

When you've finished click ''apply'' , ''ok'' and then reboot the machine.
You can use Cntrl Alt Delt to find running processes and programs on your computer. From http://fixit.in
