Laptop running Slow!!!!?

I keep trying to download new antivirus software to my laptop. I have tried a few programs - AGV etc but after downloading the laptop runs slow as hell - starting up and trying to get onto the internet. What should I do???

Well start defrag disc clean up go to run type prefetch and delete everything in the folder
