I have free wireless internet at school that I can't even use. Help.?

The wireless connection at my college that is included in my building use fees is supposed to be unlimited and complimentary with my schooling.

However, it requires that each person that uses it has the most expensive anti-virus program that is available. I am unable to get this program because the price is ridiculous but I still think it is my right to use this connection that I pay for. I have antivirus, anti-spyware, and a couple anti-malware programs.

First of all, when I connect to the wi-fi at school, no matter what browser I use, the server automatically does a scan to see if I have the right anti-virus program installed on my computer. If I don't, I can't access the internet there. No Google, no MSN messenger, no Spy sweeper updates, no windows automatic updates.. nothing.

Is there a way I can trick the server into letting me through? I did trick it once before I think, on accident.

Sounds to me like if you had it running prior to doing your Java Update, then do a system restore back to that point, that should at least get you up and running.

What Antivirus program do you need. I will help you get a legal copy at no cost since you are a student. Just email me and throw me a bunch pf compliments first.

I'm trying to delete my old version of AVG AntiVirus because it won't let me download an update...it says I need the new version. When I try to delete it from my programs list it says I don't have access but I'm the only person that uses my computer and I have administrator access. How can I delete it?? The new version won't download until I can get the old version out....

download a program called Unlocker make sure agv is not running then navigate to the agv folder and delete the folder it probably wont delete all the files open folder right click on file and use unlocker then delete the file

Are you trying to remove it while it is running? Right click the AVG icon next to the clock %26 left click ''Quick AVG Control Centre'' and then Yes. Now go to the Control Panel and uninstall from the add or remove program panel. If this does not work, still quick the AVG Control Panel and then go to Start - All Programs - AVG and then slide over to the right and down to the uninstall command. If this still does not work you should be able to remove it from the Safe Mode. Let us know it you need help and we will try.
First of all, are you administrator? Or do you have administrator rights? If not, log on as the administrator and then try and get rid of the program. You should be able to get rid of it if you are the administrator. If you are not the administrator then you may have to remove it manually by removing registry entries and program files.e.t.c.

The administrator is the account that has access to everything on the computer.
Maybe you should stop all AVG's running program........ then you can start trying to remove (uninstall) it from control panel...

If that doesn't work, you should seek for a third party software remover at download.com or somewhere else....

and the last way is... just delete the program folder, then remove it from the control panel ( it works for some softwares)

Hello,

My PC is being bombarded by popups, some of which are popups for antivirus such as ''Spyware'' etc, and possibly some trojan viruses as well.

Now rather than trusting to click on some of the ''offered'' anti-virus programs that are also popping up, I need / want to know of a LEGITIMATE and FREE anti-virus / anti-spyware program I can download.

Can anyone help?

AVG is a great programme, as others have said.

Another one which our tech at work installed and which I have later installed at home is 'Spybot Search %26 Destroy'.

Thi is a handy little programme which seeks out 'bots' and 'cookies' which have found their way onto your computer, and 'zaps' them.

It is an extra to an anti-virus program, not a full anti-virus programme, but well worth having.

Also, some toolbars, such as the Yahoo and Google toolbars have 'Pop Up blocker' options.

These are also totally free.

Should I Use A Complete Internet Security Program On My Computer?

I have a 1 Gig P3 processor with 512 ram on my pc. I am told conflicting advice.

Some recommend using a internet security program such as Norton or McAfee for security.

Others say that these programs use up too much resources and if a virus and spyware scan is performed at least once a week that is sufficient.

Currently I use AVG free edition with basic Windows Firewall. I run antivirus and spyware scans about twice a week with little or no problems.

What is ideal for an older system like mine besides buying a new computer?

You have what you need......AVG is an excellent antivirus program, just make sure its up to date.....Windows firewall is sufficient for the majority of end users (normal pc users), and if you also have spybot search and destroy along with adaware installed and you run scans as often as you say and keep them up to date....no need to get anything else.

The ''all-in-one'' security suites just basically interface the different components into one program rather than running three or four.....Norton is a system hog, and Mcafee isn't much better....but all they really do is run all those programs you already have, all at the same time from one interface, so if it aint broke, don't fix it.

Help! Computer problem.?

My computer is really slow and I read some of the old questions already on here and found some answers. I have up to date adware and antivirus software so assumed it was all the programs starting up when i log in. So I went to START - RUN typing MSCONFIG then selective startup. I only deselected messangers and realplayer, already deselected were other antivirus software, taken off i assume when the computer engineer i know installed new ones when fixing my comp. When i rebooted the computer and logged in this came up '' Error loading c:\windows\system32\fgsywjui.dll ''

Another box appeared saying that i had selected selective startup and that i should go back and click normal. I have done this and the Error box is still showing. Problem also is that it has enabled the other antivirus's which i know is a problem and you should only use one. Help! Last time the Error message came up i had to get it fixed.

i have three hard disk drives in my comp.say e,f,d

suppose i installed AVG(antivirus) in e drive

now will the antivirus work for other drives as well i.e d,f drives........ or i should install the antivirus in the main drive where all the programs are installed

You only need it installed on one of the drives. All three drives will be scanned if you install the program with its default settings.

What you are reffering to as 3 hard disk drives are partions on your main hard drive, if this is the case then install antivirus in any of your partions and AVG will automatically include all the partions while checking for viruses . If you really have 3 hard disks then you need not install antivirus in all 3 drives just check the physical storage devices you wish to include in '' scanner - manual selection '' option and AVG will check all drives for viruses.
id say put it on the primary one, as long as the other drives have an OS then it doesn't matter where you put AVG, as long as you can select which drives you want to scan.

Try to cut down the unnecessary background processes which maybe consuming ur memory... 384 MB ram is insufficient compared to the graphical messengers and advanced softwares which we use nowadays...

also check ur pc regularly for spywares...

u can check the running background processes by pressing the cntrl+alt+del buttons..

If you click 'work offline' when you're connected you'll probably have the same speed. When you're not connected your files are handled by Windows Explorer. When you connect then Internet Explorer takes over much of the stuff and it's geared much slower.

I'm sure you're not asking why you can't surf at the same speed you work offline......nah, that's not what you mean.
